ROCKHAMPTON MALAYALEE ASSOCIATION

Rockhampton Malayalee Association Inc is a non-profit, non-political, cultural organization of people from the state of Kerala, one of the southern state of India. RMA was an informal and very small Malayalee community in the beef capital of Australia in the state of Queensland for many years. Now Malayalee community in Rockhampton is growing day by day and we found that there is a need of having an association for catering social, cultural, charity events and majorly helping the needy in the society.

Kerala in Brief

Kerala is a small state constituted in 1956 in the south western part of India which borders with states like Tamilnadu, Karnataka and surrounded with the Arabian Sea in the western ghats and the Indian Ocean. It has an area of about 15000 square miles.

The word Kerala is found from ‘Kera'(coconut widely abundant in the state). The official language is Malayalam and people from the state are widely known as a Malayalee. Major religions followed in the state are Hinduism, Islam and Christianity.

Keralites have migrated in large numbers in search of employment to several countries in Middle East, Europe, Africa, West Asia and America. The professionals from Kerala are mostly wanted in these countries in the field of Medicine, Science, Information Technology, Telecom, Engineering, Education and other technical fields.

A good saying about a Malayalee is that even if you go up to moon you will find a Malayali over there. Wherever Malayalee’s live no matter they still have a special love and passion towards their home land and to have a tendency to celebrate their traditional festivals.
Festivals like Vishu, Onam, Eid ul Fitr, Eid Al Adha, Easter, Christmas etc. are few among them. ONAM is a unique festival of Kerala.
Kerala is affectionately called as ‘Gods Own Country’

Rockhampton in Brief

Rockhampton is one of the oldest cities in Queensland and in Northern Australia. Rockhampton is an industrial and agricultural centre of the north, and is the regional centre of Central Queensland. We have many mango, jackfruit and coconut farms in and surrounding areas of Rockhampton. The agricultural sector, specifically the cattle trade, is a dominant industry in Central Queensland. The latter has been visually represented around Rockhampton City with a set of seven large statues of bulls known as the ‘Big Bulls’.

Rockhampton is the home for many people all over the world. Rockhampton welcome people with open arms who come from different cultural background and follow different religion. We have Churches, temples and mosque in the city for their spiritual needs.

Rockhampton got very good hospital, age cares, restaurants, its own airport and offers a range of private and government schools with nationally recognised academic, cultural and sporting records. We also have central Queensland university at Rockhampton that offers range of course to their students. Rockhampton is the best place for young families, retired elders, skilled workers and above all people who want to have fun in life.
